About

Volusia County 4-H Youth Development includes competitive events and non-competitive events. All 4-H events and activities in this program are designed to add hands-on education to the three primary 4-H programs, and events are hosted at the county, district, state, and national levels. These events allow members to share what they have learned in their 4-H project and promote mastery through learning opportunities beyond the 4-H club.

• Ages: 5–18 years old

The main goal of 4-H in Volusia County is to teach life skills through non-formal education. In this program, life skills are defined as responsibility, goal setting, time management, organization, and communication. Volusia County 4-H relies on dedicated volunteers to promote its mission to help youth gain the knowledge and life skills they need to be productive, responsible citizens. Florida 4-H is the youth development program of Florida Cooperative Extension, a part of the University of Florida IFAS. 4-H is the nation’s largest youth development organization, and over 230,000 members in the State of Florida are part of a community of more than 6.5 million young people across America. 4-H is a nonformal, practical educational program for youth and is open to all youth ages 5–18, determined as of September 1 of the current 4-H program year, in all counties in the State of Florida. The program serves youth from all backgrounds and interests, and it is based on the idea that youth should learn through hands-on experiences rather than attending lectures and reading textbooks.
