Asbury Arts Center – North Florida Dance Center has been serving the Green Cove Springs, Orange Park, and Middleburg communities since 2005 and has been under new ownership since 2019. The studio states that it has a professional and knowledgeable staff. Its mission is stated as: “Asbury Arts Mission ‘Making the performing arts accessible to all who aspire to live life creatively.’” The program offers free trials all year round, with music lesson trials carrying a one-day private lesson fee. Each classroom and lobby are equipped with cameras, all doors in the units have alarm systems that will sound when triggered, and classrooms and lobby areas are cleaned and disinfected regularly. Cubbies are provided in the Lobby A hallway for dance and gym bags, and families are asked to use them to avoid tripping in the walkways. The program asks anyone feeling unwell or experiencing COVID symptoms to refrain from entering the building and offers assistance in finding a makeup lesson. The organization states that it believes in inclusion, that the arts are for everyone, and that it fosters a drama-free environment.
One parent, Leslie Larson, says that her family loves Asbury Arts Center and that the teaching staff provides excellent and professional instruction in dance, tumbling, and music lessons, and she reports that her girls’ confidence has grown in the environment there. Another adult student, Robin McLin, shares that she is about to perform her seventh recital with Asbury Arts Center and that she has felt welcomed by teachers and younger students from day one. Liz Williams describes that her child Rosie was invited to try a class and that they found a family of friends who have helped grow Rosie’s confidence and ability with hands-on care, and she notes that Rosie learns differently but loves dance and has been able to thrive and shine in something she loves.
