About
Hurlburt Field Youth Programs offers an Open Recreation Program with instructional classes, monthly pre-teen dances, special activities, and free-choice game room and gym activities. Children and teens can use a pool table, computers for homework, wifi, game systems, a 3-D printer, a Nature Explore Outdoor Certified Classroom, and a STEAM center with robotics, engineering, technology, and life sciences. The Teen Center includes game systems, smart TVs, computers, wifi, a music area, an art studio, graphic designing, a 3D printer, and programs in STEM, arts, service and leadership, and health and fitness.

Youth Programs offers clubs and initiatives that focus on healthy living, safety awareness, and leadership skills, including Torch Clubs for preteens and Keystone Club for teens. Participants can take part in service to the club and community projects, education, health and fitness, and social recreation projects, as well as volunteering at Youth Center and base events and developing their own service projects. Youth Sponsorship connects youth ages 5–18 who are moving to or from Hurlburt Field with someone their own age.
Arts programming includes instruction in different art techniques that are showcased in the Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) National Arts Competition, the ImageMakers National Photography Program, and 4-H arts curriculum and county events. Indoor and outdoor facilities are used to promote motor skills, and specialty camps, special events, and youth sports leagues and programs are also offered. Triple Play, the Michael Phelps IM Program, SMART Girls, SMART Moves, and Passport to Manhood are part of the health and fitness and character-focused offerings.
Homework assistance, high-yield learning activities, and the PowerHour Program are available, along with a STEAM center meant to inspire interest in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. At the Teen Center, teens can access workplace readiness experience, college preparedness, scholarship assistance, and career exploration. The Youth of the Year program is a scholarship and recognition program for teens ages 14–18, and Hurlburt Field Youth of the Year participants compete at the state level with the possibility of regional and national levels.
Through its affiliation with Boys and Girls Clubs of America and 4-H, Youth Programs offers structured programs that promote positive youth development. Keystone Club is offered through the BGCA partnership for leadership and service experience, and the Air Force Teen Council connects teens with installation leaders and other installations to share youth concerns at higher levels of Air Force leadership. Eligible youth are family members of active duty, retired military, and civilian employees at Hurlburt Field.
Hurlburt Field Youth Sports is a member of the National Alliance of Youth Sports (NAYS), and all coaches are trained and certified members of the National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA). The mission statement for Hurlburt Youth Program states that participation in sports and fitness plays a vital role in youth development and that the program offers diversified activities based on community needs and desires, with a goal of providing a positive and fun learning environment that supports the well-being of the military family and contributes to mission effectiveness. Class instructors are currently needed for piano, martial arts, and gymnastics instruction.
