The program began in 2020 in the founders’ living room with a handful of students. The leadership team includes Makenzie Oliver, Founder and Director of Lighthouse Learning Micro-school and Homeschool Hybrid, and Jamel Oliver, Founder. Their mission is to provide a faith-infused, family-centered, and future-focused education that empowers children to thrive.
Makenzie has a Master’s in K–12 Education and Administration Leadership, years of classroom and leadership experience, and has received recognition as Heartland’s Best Teacher in Missouri and Teacher of the Year in Florida. She was an Opening Keynote Speaker and Featured Panelist at VELA Con 2025, VELA’s 2nd annual national conference. Lighthouse Learning has been featured in a Spectrum News 13 article titled “Eager to teach her own children, Seminole teacher started a micro-school,” and participates in VELA’s 2nd annual national conference for education founders through the VELA Founder Network.
