UF/IFAS Extension Baker County 4-H Youth Development Programs offers hands-on activities such as Embryology, where youth observe the growth and embryonic development of baby chickens in eggs over a 21-day in-school program, and the I Can Be A Scientist curriculum for K–2 students with ten modules that include an introduction to a scientist, a literacy component, a hands-on inquiry-based activity, a take-home activity, and additional resources. The program also includes Youth Understanding MyPlate (YUM), a six-lesson curriculum that teaches young children the basic messages of MyPlate through activities, as well as the Florida Power & Light Public Speaking Contest where students write speeches and compete at the class, grade, and county levels. Youth can participate in clubs and activities such as the 4-H Afterschool Program, Holiday Bake-Off, showing an animal at the fair, summer day camps on topics like cooking, insects, and farm to table, the Livestock Club, Cloverbuddies, Baker’s Acres Homeschool Club, and the STEAM Explorers Club, and they may attend a residential week at Camp Cherry Lake during the summer when available.

• Price: The fee is $20 per member for youth ages 8–18 as of September 1 of the current 4-H year, while youth ages 5–7 (Cloverbuds) and adults are not required to pay the fee; the winner of the county Florida Power & Light Public Speaking Contest receives a free trip to Camp Cherry Lake valued at over $200; payment for camps and activities can be made by cash or check at the Baker County Extension Office, payment is required to secure registration, and payment plans are available upon request.
UF/IFAS Extension Baker County 4-H Youth Development Programs includes several clubs with set meeting times: Livestock Club for ages 5–18 meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. in the Auditorium, Cloverbuddies for ages 5–11 meets on the 1st Monday of the month at 4 p.m. in the Auditorium, Baker’s Acres Homeschool Club for ages 5–7 meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 10:30 a.m. at varying locations, and STEAM Explorers Club for ages 5–18 meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 4:30 p.m. in the Auditorium. Summer day camps are held at the Extension Office and surrounding areas and cover subjects such as cooking, insects, and farm to table, and the Embryology program is delivered in schools. Registration for camps and activities is handled through the 4-H Online system, and payment is made by cash or check at the Baker County Extension Office.
The program uses the 4-H Online system to keep track of all youth and volunteers involved with 4-H, and this system is mandatory for all youth and is the place to report if a child has an allergy or a special need. All Florida 4-H volunteers are FBI Level 2 background checked. 4-H members participate in “learn by doing” project work that may include competing in a contest, going on a field trip, giving a speech, or working with an animal, and there are projects in areas such as livestock animals, rocketry, outdoors, woodworking, visual art, performance art, and citizenship.

The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) is a federal, state, and county partnership focused on developing knowledge in agriculture, human and natural resources, and the life sciences and making that knowledge accessible to sustain and enhance the quality of human life.

Florida Ag in the Classroom Grant (FAITC) offers Teacher Grants and School Garden Mini Grants to Florida pre-K through 12th grade teachers and agri-science teachers.
