The Afterschool Program is offered in partnership with the City of Miami Parks and Recreation Department and Miami Dade County Public Schools. The program is structured with measurable outcomes in the areas of reading and literacy, physical fitness, and social skills. It provides a safe place for children 6–12 where community and family come together to create positive and enriching experiences. The program is run by Amigos For Kids, whose mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect by valuing children, strengthening families, and educating communities. Amigos For Kids was named The Children’s Trust Program of the Year in 2015 and has earned a four-star rating with Charity Navigator. The organization’s leadership includes President & Chief Executive Officer Karina Pavone; Vice President of Finance & Operations John Serret; Vice President of Programs and Strategic Partnerships Susana Vela; Senior Director of Family Services Raysa Perez Tabares, M.S.Ed.; and Director of Youth Services Jenniffer Dorcinvil. In 1991, a group named Amigos of CHS was co-founded by Jorge A. Plasencia; a year later the group became an independent organization named Amigos Together For Kids and was later renamed Amigos For Kids.
