GPS and BLOC Summer Camps are free summer programs that run Monday through Friday from June 8 to July 31. The GPS Summer Camp is a free program for children in Pre-K through 5th grade, and the BLOC Summer Camp is a free program for middle and high school students.
• Ages: 4–18 years old
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, June 8–July 31, 2026; GPS Summer Camp runs from 7:30am to 5:30pm, and BLOC Summer Camp runs from 9:00am to 3:00pm
• Price: FREE Summer Camp for middle and high schoolers, as well as youth from Pre-K through 5th grade
Gang Alternative, Inc., which runs GPS and BLOC Summer Camps, was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in 2005. Its mission is to build character that lasts in children and families through positive alternatives to crime, violence, dependency, and delinquency by offering a holistic approach to their academic, physical, social, economic, and spiritual development. Gang Alternative, Inc. operates under five Pillars of Service: Positive Youth Development, Family Strengthening, Workforce Development, Community Upliftment and Partnerships, and Health and Wellness.
Staff members are fluent in English, French, Haitian Creole, and Spanish, and have a wealth of experience in social services. The leadership includes a Board of Directors with representatives from the public and private sectors, and the Chief Executive Officer, with the assistance of the Executive and Management teams, oversees a staff of over 100 employees, as well as interns and volunteers. Gang Alternative, Inc. is a licensed Florida Department of Children and Families level 1 and 2 provider and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities for case management and prevention services.
A significant number of Gang Alternative, Inc. programs have targeted the Little Haiti, New River, Liberty City, and North Miami communities for many years, and the organization has expanded to other communities in Miami-Dade County, including Little Havana and Homestead, and offers programs in Broward and Palm Beach County. Gang Alternative, Inc. has also provided coalition mentoring to a drug-free coalition in Puerto Rico and is a member of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.
