About
Children’s Art Classes and Camps at the Lowe (Children’s Pavilion) offer children’s art classes, a children’s art camp, and art projects. These activities take place in the Children’s Pavilion, which was built in 1953 with support from Beaux Arts and is designed to encourage children, ages 5–12, to explore their own creativity. The program is held primarily during school breaks in the winter, spring, and summer.
• Ages: 5–12 years old
• Schedule: Held primarily during school breaks in the winter, spring, and summer
Beaux Arts was founded in 1952, and the Children’s Pavilion was built in 1953 with support from Beaux Arts. Beaux Arts is a 100% female-run volunteer non-profit whose mission is to encourage an understanding and appreciation of the arts in South Florida and support the Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami. Since its founding, Beaux Arts has raised over $8 million dollars for the Lowe, placing the organization in the highest donor category for the University of Miami, The Gables Society. Beginning in 2021, Beaux Arts’ funding has made admission to the museum free for all. In 2011, Beaux Arts was honored by the University of Miami Alumni Association with the White Award, which recognizes an affiliate group that has made significant contributions to the University. Toward its mission, Beaux Arts welcomes the acclaimed art director, Dr. Jill Deupi, as the new Beaux Arts Director and Chief Curator of the Lowe Art Museum.
As part of its community involvement, Beaux Arts brings underserved kids from across Miami-Dade County to the museum for a day of fun and learning through the “HandsOn! – A Children’s Celebration in Art” program. This program enables students from Title 1 elementary schools and CHARLEE Homes for Children to visit the museum free of charge with paid transportation, learn about specific exhibits, and participate in art projects. In 2014, Beaux Arts extended this art appreciation program to children residing at the Chapman Partnership Homeless Shelter.
