New Horizons Preschool offers Infants Care, Toddlers Care/Education, Two-Years Care/Education, Pre-School Education, VPK, Kindergarten, and First–Third Grade. The program also offers Afterschool, Summer Camp, and a School Readiness Program. New Horizons Preschool opened its doors in 1996 offering classes for Preschool students. In September 2003 it received certification of “APPLE” (Accreditation Professional Preschool Learning Environment). In October 2004, New Horizons Preschool II opened in the West Kendall area. In March 2023, New Horizons Preschool III opened in the Kendall area. In July 2023, New Horizons Preschool IV opened, offering education from infants, Preschool, VPK and Kindergarten to third grade. The centers offer academic and social services to children and their families with assistance provided by The Early Learning Coalition, which has made it possible to assist families with less economic resources in the community.
Teachers at New Horizons Preschool are required to have a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent (a combination of education and experience) in Early Childhood Education, 24 months of experience as a Preschool Teacher, a CDA (Child Development Associate Credential), a Florida Staff Credential, and completion of state-mandated VPK training. The program holds certification of “APPLE” (Accreditation Professional Preschool Learning Environment) and the Gold Seal of Quality Care Program.
According to its mission statement, New Horizons Preschool provides exceptional academic programs and quality care for its students, along with time, attention, understanding, and guidance to improve their capabilities and encourage them to strive for excellence to the best of their ability. The facilities are described as designed to meet the demands of the community’s multiculturalism and the needs of parents, who are considered essential to their children’s academic growth. The program states that its teaching strategies facilitate children to develop a sense of self-confidence and emotional well-being, autonomy and self-control, responsibility, and trust in others.
