About

Camp Embark offers a wide range of hands-on activities, including woodwork and woodworking, coding, culinary arts, drama, sports, creative arts, outdoor play and movement, archery, and fishing. Campers also take part in creative workshops such as art, music, and storytelling, as well as STEM and other hands-on learning projects. The program includes life skills and team-building activities, along with group bonding and social time.

• Ages: 5–14 years old
• Schedule: Monday–Friday 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., plus Saturday 9:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m.

Camp Embark runs Summer Camp, Spring Camp, and Winter Camp, with year-round adventures for children ages 5 to 14. The camp is a screen-free space focused on active play, creativity, and real connections, and it offers screen-free technology programs that use hands-on activities to teach STEM skills, entrepreneurship, and financial education. Additional services include lunches and snacks, transportation services, extended care, and screen-free technology programs. Camp Embark is a nut-free camp, and a catered lunch supplied by a local restaurant is available, with meals that change daily and vegetarian and vegan options upon request. Field trips take place on the second and third week of a season, and seasonal events include a Winter Wonderland Festival with games, crafts, and holiday cheer, a Spring Carnival that combines adventure and art, and Summer Spirit Fridays, Talent Shows, and an End-of-Summer Showcase. On a ratio of 1–8, counselors work with campers to help them make friends, resolve issues, and receive encouragement on a day-to-day basis.

Campers can bring lunch and two snacks from home, or choose a catered lunch option from a trusted local restaurant that includes two snacks. Parents may purchase weekly snacks from the camp or send $1 to $3 with their child to buy snacks at camp. For Winter, children should bring a jacket or sweater, closed-toe shoes, and a water bottle. For Spring, children should bring a hat, poncho or light raincoat, and sneakers for outdoor play. For Summer, children should bring a swimsuit, towel, water shoes, sunscreen, extra clothes, and a hat. Electronics and valuables are to be left at home.

Counselors and teachers at Camp Embark are vetted using background checking, including personal interviews, reference checks, and background checks. Staff members are required to complete a Level 2 Background check for criminal activity, a clearance request from DCF (Child Protective Services) for child abuse and neglect, and a Voluntary Disclosure Statement for additional screening. Applicants are at least 18 years old, have graduated from high school, or are rising seniors invited to apply early after completing the Staff-in-Training program. Staff receive additional specialized training to certify in archery, Basic Principles of Applied Behavior Analysis, diversity inclusion, fishing, entrepreneurship, woodworking, and more. The camp administration team works year-round and collectively has over 30 years of child care experience from teaching to child advocacy.

Camp Embark’s mission is to stimulate campers to inspire adventure, creativity, and growth. The program focuses on promoting independence and responsibility while encouraging resilience by building solid personalities, and it strives for campers to be free yet skilled at navigating the complexities of life.

Parent feedback includes comments such as, “We could not ask for a better camp for this summer for the boys. They had a blast. We are so grateful for Mrs Lydia, Mrs Donna, and the entire Camp Embark family for such a fun and memorable time. They are simply the best. Looking forward for more fun times with CE in the future,” from Andrelle Franck. Another parent, Natalie Dabbraccio, shared that her son attended for almost all of summer 2022, noted that the staff is fun and caring, and described activities including horse rides, bouncy houses, fishing, and art. Teresa Williams stated, “My kids LOVEEEEEE this camp! I am so thrilled to have found this camp. The director and staff are loving and kind, and truly show an interest in nurturing my kids to become the best versions of themselves. Their days are filled with activities, sports, art, etc - these are not just ‘time fillers’ - the kids love every minute of camp!”
