The mission of Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge is education, conservation, and rehabilitation for the welfare of Northwest Florida's natural fauna, with a stated purpose to rescue, rehabilitate, and when possible release back to the wild sick, orphaned, and injured wildlife, and to educate the community on local wildlife and human responsibilities to support that wildlife. The organization is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that receives support through fundraising efforts, grants, and the generosity of community members, businesses, tourists, and other organizations. Its marine mammal and sea turtle stranding team is on call 365 days a year and responds to over 20 stranded dolphins, whales, and sea turtles each year, while the facility provides medical care and rehabilitation to about 1,500 to almost 2,000 injured or orphaned native Florida wildlife patients each year. The Education Center is open to the public and includes animal ambassadors, and the Navarre campus features a pathway between the education and medical centers where purchased bricks are placed. In 2019, Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge built its Navarre campus.
