RLMA Martial Arts has been teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Karate, and Taekwondo since 2004, when Professor Regis Lima opened his own Taekwondo school, RL Martial Arts. Professor Regis Lima is an instructor at RLMA Martial Arts and is the AAU Florida Taekwondo District Director. He earned his Taekwondo black belt under Brazilian athlete Fabio Goulart and became regional, state, and national champion in 1998. In 2001, he was hired to teach Taekwondo at recreational centers in Pasco County, FL, and his passion and commitment to the sport quickly gained the support of local families. He earned the title of National Champion and a silver medal at the U.S. Open in 2007, and a bronze medal at the Pan IBJJF in 2021. He began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2011 under Professor Marcio “Pe de Pano” Cruz, was allowed to teach beginners after earning his purple belt, and was promoted to Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu by Professor Cruz in 2024.
Since opening, RLMA Martial Arts has stated a mission of changing lives one person at a time through martial arts, education, and coaching, and of maintaining a safe, comfortable, and welcoming atmosphere for students and their families. The program states that martial arts at RLMA Martial Arts is for everyone, regardless of age, gender, or experience level, and that martial arts is more than just physical training. RLMA Martial Arts notes that members have seen improvements in as little as 7 days and that parents appreciate the Kids Martial Arts Summer Camps. The program offers a new student special where new students can train for free, and it advises families to have students wear comfortable clothes suitable for sports and to bring a water bottle to classes.
Parents and students have shared that their kids learned Jiu-Jitsu along with respect and honor, that RLMA feels like family, and that teachers take their time with students each day. One adult student has said that Regis is an excellent instructor who kept him motivated and progressing in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for years. Other reviewers have said that everyone in their family has grown physically and mentally, that martial arts at RLMA is more than just physical training, and that a child has been able to travel to different places to compete on a team with skills improving every year. Multiple parents have described enrolling their children at RLMA Martial Arts as an important decision for their family and have referred to Regis and the other instructors as being like family.
