Jimmy Lane Surfing Academy offers surf camps, private and group surfing lessons, spring and summer camps, the JLSA Prep Academy, a surf contest, Surf Art, and homeschool group surfing sessions. All camps and lessons include the use of a surfboard, and surf camps and Memorial week camps include the use of all equipment. Summer surf camps and the Memorial week camp include cold watermelon served daily, a complimentary T-shirt, and a Friday pizza party.
• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: Summer surf camps run as a 3-hour daily program Monday–Friday from 9:30am–12:30pm between early June and mid-August, with additional Memorial week sessions, weekend lessons from 9:30am–10:45am, and JLSA Prep Academy sessions Wednesday–Friday from 5:00–6:30pm.
• Price: Summer camp 2026 sessions range from $250–$285 per week, with JLSA Prep Academy from $160 for all three days or $60 per day, private groups from $75–$80, Memorial week at $250, and school-year small group rates at $55 per person.
Jimmy Lane Surfing Academy was established in 1985 and has partnered with the City of New Smyrna Beach's Leisure Services as its official summer surf camp for over 30 years. Owner and local mentor Jimmy Lane is a former World Tour Pro and Professional Competition Judge, and instructors are experienced and all active surfers. The leadership team includes owner Jimmy Lane and JLSA instructor and real estate agent Stephanie Stallard. The academy describes itself with the mission statement: “The Ocean is our classroom, the coaches are your teachers, and the waves are our lessons! Everyone can learn to surf and be ocean smart!” Jimmy Lane Surfing Academy is described as a trusted community fixture and is referred to as New Smyrna Beach's premier surf school. The program encourages family surfing, offers day rates with walk-ups welcome if space is available, recommends advanced booking, and provides a Surfer's Summer Pak where purchasing a block of three weeks gives a fourth week free. The JLSA Surf Contest is open to all 2026 camp participants, and Surf Art created by Jimmy Lane is sometimes offered through a child-friendly surf art auction. The JLSA Prep Academy is offered for ages 3–5 in a pool setting to prepare for regular camp, private lessons are available for beginners, adults, and competitors working on maneuvers and contest strategies, and there is an option to organize homeschool groups or join existing small group sessions. Participants must know how to swim, and suggested clothing and equipment include board shorts, swimsuits, and surfboards.
