Sarasota Crew offers youth rowing and competitive rowing, including an elementary and middle school rowing program. The program also runs summer camp programs and includes disabled rowing, seniors rowing, and corporate rowing teams.

Sarasota Crew was created and launched in the summer of 2002, and since its inception over 2000 youth have benefited from its development program. The organization has an executive director, Linda Mansperger, who is also the Executive Director of Historic Spanish Point. Its mission states that it utilizes competitive rowing to promote strong character, high integrity, positive self-concept, contribution to community, and a healthful lifestyle for youth and adults in Sarasota County and surrounding communities. Sarasota Crew describes its approach with the phrases “Empowering Lives. One Rower At A Time.” and “Where Olympic dreams are born.”
Sarasota Crew is one of the largest rowing programs in the country, with over 183 high school youth rowers and an elementary and middle school program of 180 youths, plus summer camp programs with well over 250 participants. The program includes disabled, seniors, and corporate rowing teams, and it has a fleet of over 135 rowing shells along with supporting coach launches and other equipment. Sarasota Crew notes that several highly qualified and effective coaches work with the athletes, and a vibrantly active parent group supports the team.
Since 2011, Sarasota Crew has been Florida State Champions 15 years running (2011–2025) and USRowing Southeast Regional Champions 13 years running (2012–2024). The program has produced USRowing Youth National Champions in 2013, 2018, 2021, 2022, and 2023, and over 40 national champions have been Sarasota Crew members. Sarasota Crew has earned Florida State Championship titles from 2011 through 2019 and Southeast Regional Championship titles from 2012 through 2019, including National Youth Championships for the Men’s Varsity 8+ in 2013 and 2018. Within the last five years, well over 100 athletes have participated in the Junior National Team, with 21 representing the USA at the Junior World Championships. In the summer of 2018, six Sarasota Crew youth rowers and the head coach represented the United States at the World Rowing Championships in Racice, Czech Republic, earning gold in the Men’s 1x, gold in the Women’s Four, and silver in the Men’s 8+. Sarasota Crew alum Clark Dean ’18 and the USA Men’s Eight won a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Bay Point at Osprey is described as a five-acre campus devoted to public access to the waters of Sarasota Bay, and in 2019 Sarasota Crew purchased and developed an additional 3.1 acres of land to extend its reach to the community while preserving and providing permanent public water access. According to Sarasota Crew alumni, the program “made them the productive, caring and responsible people” they are today.
