About

Charlotte Harbor Youth Sailing offers Summer Sailing Camps, an Advanced Sailing Program, and Adventure Sails that include destination sails across the Peace River to ice cream shops at Fishermen's Village and Laishley Marina. The Summer Sailing Camps are week-long, full-day programs that run from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, with each series starting with Beginner Camps and ending with Intermediate or Advanced Camps, and an Advanced Sailing Camp and mini-regatta at the end of the summer camp season. Campers who successfully complete any of these camps and have reached their 10th birthday by September 1 are eligible to join the year-round Saturday Sailing Program, and CHYS will also accept registrations from young sailors who have successfully completed any US Sailing certified sail training program.

• Ages: 8–17 years old
• Schedule: Week-long, full-day summer camps with two series (one before and one after the 4th of July break), plus a year-round Saturday Sailing Program and a Saturday Advanced/Adventure Program during the school year
• Price: The registration fee during the last weeks prior to each camp is $300, and the fee for Saturday sailing is $35.

Charlotte Harbor Youth Sailing focuses on Safety, Seamanship, Sportsmanship, and the Racing Rules of Sailing in a fun environment. The mission of the program is to teach and develop young people in sailing and seamanship in a safe, fun, and structured environment, with CHYS sailors expected to develop and demonstrate respect for others and the environment and to be willing to lend a helping hand to others on and off the water, with the goal of developing skilled and confident young people who will be a lifelong credit to the community. The program provides each student with the US Sailing “Learn Sailing Right” book, CHYS proprietary curriculum supplements, and the US Sailing “Little Red Book” to track mastery of sailing skills, and has US Sailing’s STEM “Reach” program materials available for use during advanced sailing programs.

Charlotte Harbor Youth Sailing is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization and a US Sailing certified youth sailing school. Its instructors are US Sailing Certified, and the school membership in US Sailing and instructor certifications provide $5 million liability insurance through the Gowrie Group. CHYS is a youth program managed by Charlotte Harbor Youth Sailing, operates under a Memorandum of Understanding with Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club, a 501(c)(7) nonprofit fraternal organization, and uses ACTIVE Network’s secure website for summer camp registrations and fee processing.
