Building Brains Academy follows the Edu1st VESS bilingual international curriculum that promotes critical thinking and uses the Making Thinking Visible Approach of teaching from Project Zero at Harvard University. Edu1st VESS is described as an eclectic holistic approach to learning with a focus on the academic, social and emotional development of the child, and its main objective is fostering in each child the thinking and life skills necessary to lead a Meaningful Life with Balance and Wisdom. The program includes a seamless Infant-to-Elementary model, small class sizes and small/personalized groups, multilingual education, and a unique Dual Language (English/Spanish) Elementary Program for Kindergarten through Second Grade. It is identified as a Lake Nona, FL area Preschool offering foreign language immersion and a Lake Nona Area Preschool & Elementary Program for Kindergarten to Second Grade, and it is not a daycare center. The elementary program for Kindergarten through Second Grade accepts the Step Up Scholarship (FES-EO). Edu1st VESS is a bilingual curriculum approved for Florida’s VPK Programs.
Building Brains Academy offers a summer camp program for students ages 5 to 11 years old with a STEAM focus. The program also serves homemade meals and snacks that are free from artificial colors, free from highly processed ingredients, and organic whenever possible. The stated mission is: “At Building Brains Academy, we build a strong academic foundation from infancy through elementary school, supporting children at every stage of their learning journey.”
One parent, Ellie Kirkbride, shares that her daughter had Ms. Mei-Ling as her VPK teacher and describes her as radiating love for her students and her work, making every activity fun, engaging, and easy for the kids to understand, and says that learning in her classroom feels like a daily adventure. Another parent, Claudia L, reports a wonderful experience with Building Brains Academy, describing the staff as incredibly caring, attentive, and genuinely invested in the well-being and development of the children, and notes that her daughter loves going every day and comes home happy, engaged, and excited to share what she has learned, while also mentioning appreciation for Ms. Miriam, Ms. Liliana, and Ms. Mikaela.
