The Lightner Museum was founded in 1948. Its mission is to inspire curiosity, excite minds, and enrich lives through its collection, historic building, and exhibitions and programs. The museum is housed in the former Hotel Alcazar, a Gilded Age resort hotel commissioned by Standard Oil executive Henry Flagler, built in 1888 in the Spanish Renaissance Revival style and designed by the Beaux-Arts architectural firm Carrère and Hastings. The museum’s leadership team includes Teresa Radzinski (Board Chair), Mark Bailey, David Drysdale, David Peek, and Nancy Sikes-Kline.
