Sew Pinellas

Sew Pinellas offers sewing classes, youth summer camps, private lessons, after school sewing, and introductory sewing. The program also includes pattern drafting, fashion design, and lingerie design as part of its instruction. Sew Pinellas is based in an educational sewing studio housed within the Studio of Porcelynne, which is described as an incubator for sewing enthusiasts and learners and is aligned with Porcelynne’s online sewing supply resources focused on lingerie supplies.

Jennifer Fairbanks leads Sew Pinellas as its founder and is described as the heart and soul of the program and a St. Petersburg native. Her teaching legacy spans over two decades, including teaching at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in both San Francisco and Los Angeles. She is an author with multiple titles on pattern drafting and lingerie design and previously established a fashion design school in Redlands, California that operated for four years. Jennifer returned to St. Petersburg six years ago and continued to be involved in sewing through volunteering and personal endeavors. The mission of Sew Pinellas states that it is dedicated to weaving the art of sewing into the St. Pete community and focuses on empowering the next generation with sewing skills and emphasizing sewing as an act of self-expression. The program notes that the earlier fashion design school collaborated with charter school programs and hosted summer camps, and Sew Pinellas encourages support through sponsorships, donations, and volunteer involvement.
