About
Lyric's AWESOME! Summer Camp gives campers three weeks exploring drama, dance, music, and technical theater production. Campers can take part in Stage Crew, build props and scenery, help run the show, and join in arts & crafts, game show fun, movie days, and outdoor recreation. In Session 1, campers take the audience on a trip through different eras and decades using songs, dance, and scenes, and in Session 2 they focus on what it means to disconnect from electronics and reconnect to one another.
• Schedule: Three-week sessions, with Session 1 running June 8–26 and Session 2 running July 6–24, with events listed as starting at 9:00 AM
Lyric's AWESOME! Summer Camp is held at The Lyric Theatre. The camp uses the performing arts as a medium to teach campers about teamwork, self-discipline, problem-solving, tolerance, and kindness. Each session supports a theme that promotes these same ideas, with Session 1 titled “Why We Tell the Story Honoring our past for the future” and Session 2 titled “Unplugged Disconnecting to Connect.” Campers work together toward the common goal of presenting the sharing, and those who do not want to be on stage can join Stage Crew. The camp teaches practical life skills applications and character-building techniques that translate to everyday life, and LASC has proven to be a powerful platform to get kids on board with socially responsible behavior.
The mission of the program’s home organization is “To provide the community with a home for the performing arts that entertains, educates, and stimulates the growth of artistic integrity and experience for everyone.” The leadership team includes Kia Fontaine, President / CEO; Heather Long, Development Director; David Jacobs, Technical Director; Sue Nauss, Arts & Education Coordinator; and Michael Renfro, Mr Box Office Director & Group Sales. Each of the teaching staff are passionately committed not only to arts education but to bolstering the self-confidence and empowerment of each camper. Opportunities to sponsor a camper or become a sponsor for Arts & Education programs are offered.
