The mission of the Armory Art Center is to inspire the creation and experience of art. The Armory Art Center was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization on November 21, 1986, opened to the public in July 1987, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. It offers hundreds of courses held in 12 state-of-the-art studios annually and provides summer art camps for thousands of youth. The center is home to artists-in-residence from the United States and abroad and serves as a premier space for exhibitions, art salons, lectures, and special events. In Spring 2023, it launched a restoration project of the Old Armory Building as an initial phase to update all of the center’s facilities in the next five years. The BraveHeARTS program at the Armory Art Center promotes the rehabilitation of military service veterans through visual arts and creative expression. The Armory Art Center received the fifth-place prize of $70,000 from Wellington International's Great Charity Challenge, and art activists and the Palm Beach County Cultural Council worked with the City of West Palm Beach to stop the demolition of the Armory building and begin plans to transform it into an art center.
