Teachers and staff at Champions Champ Camp undergo extensive training on health and safety practices, including pandemic-response protocols, and are trained in first aid and CPR. Staff members are trained in child development, early childhood education, or a related field, and the program conducts criminal background checks. The program uses a research-backed curriculum, weekly themes such as STEM and play with no two weeks the same, and hands-on experiences and outside time. Financial support and discounts may be available for some families. Most sites offer breakfast, lunch, and snacks, though meal service may vary by site. At sites that provide meal service, the menu satisfies applicable federal and state nutrition guidelines and includes a variety of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and calcium-rich foods. To accommodate children with food allergies, some sites may restrict which food items are served and brought in.
Families must provide permission before a child participates in a field trip or other off-site activity. All children must be signed in and out on a paper-based roster and/or computer system, along with any additional state licensing requirements. Only pre-approved people with photo identification may pick up a child, and written authorization must be on file before a child is released to anyone.
Parent feedback about Champions Champ Camp includes comments such as, “This year's Champ camp was awesome. There was an actual curriculum, and it was amazing,” from a parent in Parker, CO. Another Champ Camp parent reports, “You know it’s great when your little asks on the weekend when she can go back to camp.” A dad in San Jose, CA, states, “The staff are incredibly dedicated to making sure the children have the best possible experience.”
