The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA states its mission as putting Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The organization is a 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization and is described as the largest and oldest service organization in America. A Certified Personal Trainer is available at the Y, and all locations have new wellness equipment and a helpful, supportive team. The Tampa YMCA offers an app, YMCA360, with improved features and online group exercise classes.

In 1889, the first YMCA facility was built in Tampa as a 50,000-square-foot building that brought the city its first gymnasium and indoor swimming pool and included residential headquarters to provide housing for young men. YMCAs invented basketball and volleyball, and the YMCA contributed the idea of night school and concepts for organizations including the Boy Scouts and Campfire Girls. The East Pasco YMCA Founder’s Day 5K marks the community effort that brought the YMCA to Zephyrhills and continues to involve families across East Pasco.

The Tampa YMCA remains committed to providing free access to life-saving water safety education and continues its partnership with the Tampa Bay Lightning as part of the “Patch With A Purpose” program, where the Tampa Bay YMCA logo appears on all Lightning jerseys. Community support from individuals and local partnerships funds program scholarships and free offerings, including opportunities for individuals to learn how to swim and be safe around water, prevent and cope with chronic diseases, and build self-confidence and social skills. Members have exclusive savings on Summer Camp, access to 23 Tampa Bay YMCAs, unlimited access to all 10 family centers and three wellness centers, and exclusive access to youth and family programs at YMCA Camp Cristina and the Bob Sierra Youth and Family Center. The Tampa YMCA Before & After School Enrichment program is available at 26 Hillsborough County elementary schools and five Y locations, and licensed preschool services are offered for ages 2 to 5 years old at two family centers.
