About
Big Blue Marble Academy offers early care, daycare, preschool, and after-school care in what it describes as a “true home away from home.” The program describes its setting as a caring, responsive, and nurturing family environment.
• Ages: 0–11 years old
Big Blue Marble Academy states that its mission is “To Nurture Little Minds and Grow Big Hearts for a Better World.” Its programs are organized around each child’s age and stage of development, from early care and daycare through preschool and after-school care. The curriculum is play-based and called “Passport to Learning,” and it is derived from research, theory, and best practices in early childhood education, with global education at the core to build children’s understanding of the world outside their community. The program includes service learning and a global learning curriculum about the role children play as good citizens in their community and in the world, and it introduces STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) through “A Passport to STEAM.” Big Blue Marble Academy lists its core values as Mindfulness, Inclusivity, Empathy, Diversity, Growth, and Safety, and describes itself as providing a “home away from home” and a family environment.
Big Blue Marble Academy has been in operation since at least 2012. As part of its “Change for a Change” project, students around Houston, including those at the Cinco Ranch location, completed a change drive to provide pre- and postnatal care for five mothers and their babies at the Rotifunk Hospital in Africa. Students in Middle Tennessee completed a similar change drive to provide pre- and postnatal care for three mothers and their babies at the Rotifunk Hospital in Sierra Leone, Africa. The organization teaches children the importance of giving back and helping others in need through hands-on activities and “Heart Projects.”
One parent, Arpita S., states, “Every teacher really makes a difference in my child’s life.”
