FOCUS Camps and Family Programs

FOCUS Camps and Family Programs offers hospital visits, parent workshops, a newsletter, holiday help, recorded workshops, family activities, Family Camp, Extra Special Saturday, Summer Day Camps, the FAST Fins Adaptive Swim Team, the Teens and Young Adults (TYA) Program, and Overnight Camps. The program also serves children and young adults with significant disabilities, complex needs, or complex medical needs.

Programs

• Hospital Visits — FOCUS volunteers and staff visit children who are hospitalized at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite and Arthur M. Blank.
• Parent Workshops — Throughout the year · Educational workshops offered throughout the year; free for FOCUS families. Also part of the annual education conference.
• Newsletter — Created primarily by parents and professionals and includes upcoming events and highlights from recent programs.
• Holiday Help — Annual tradition offering extra care and support to active FOCUS families.
• Recorded Workshops — FOCUS offers many workshops throughout the year and an annual education conference.
• Family Activities — Outings for families using discounted tickets to community attractions and opportunities to gather with other families.
• Family Camp — Weekend getaway · A fully adaptive weekend getaway at Camp Twin Lakes for families of children and young adults with significant disabilities.
• Extra Special Saturday — Designed for children with significant disabilities or who are medically fragile.
• Summer Day Camps — Fully adapted summer camp for children and young adults with significant disabilities or complex needs.
• FAST Fins Adaptive Swim Team — Adaptive swim team focused on swim strokes, stamina, team skills, self-confidence, verbal commands, and fitness.
• Teens and Young Adults (TYA) Program — Monthly social activities · Supports teens in monthly social activities.
• Overnight Camps — FOCUS hosts two overnight camps each year for teens and young adults with significant disabilities or complex medical needs.

• General schedule: Overnight Camps are hosted two times each year. Share Groups are monthly from September through May, with some meeting year-round. Family Camp is a weekend getaway. Summer Day Camps are offered as a summer camp.

About the provider

FOCUS was founded in August 1983 and celebrated 40 years of service in 2023. Its mission is to embrace and equip families of children with disabilities to make everyday life better. FOCUS seeks to create a community for families of children with disabilities in metro Atlanta and throughout Georgia, and it offers wraparound programs of support to children, teens, and young adults with disabilities and to their families.
