FOCUS Camps and Family Programs offers hospital support, workshops, adapted day and overnight camps, adapted swim teams, parent share groups, and family camps and activities. Specific programs include Camp Infinity, Camp Hollywood, Camp TEAM, FAST Fins, Family Camp, and Summer Family Camp, as well as parent and caregiver groups such as the Peachtree City Share Group, Cumming Share Group, Dads Decatur Share Group, and Teen & Young Adult Gwinnett Stripers. FOCUS Camps and Family Programs is part of FOCUS, which offers wraparound programs of support to children, teens, and young adults with lifelong developmental and/or physical disabilities and to their families. FOCUS serves more than 5,000 Georgia families, and the families of children with disabilities range in age from birth through 29 years old. The organization has an equipment loan program and provides grants for critical medical equipment, and families have received loaned and granted equipment such as strollers, wheelchair accessible vans, vehicle lifts, and beach wheelchairs. FOCUS seeks to create a community for families of children with disabilities in metro Atlanta and throughout Georgia, and its mission is to embrace and equip families of children with disabilities to make everyday life better. FOCUS was founded in August 1983 by Susan Calhoun, Jim Calhoun, Lynne Conboy, and Jim Conboy.
Parents and young adults have shared that FOCUS grants and equipment have supported needs related to spina bifida, transportation to medical appointments, use of power chairs in the community, and access to beach wheelchairs. Families have described using a stroller at cross country meets, using a wheelchair accessible van for hospital visits and emergencies, transporting a power chair with a vehicle lift, and using beach wheelchairs so every participant who needed one could have one.
