Camp Sunshine’s mission is to enrich the lives of Georgia’s children with cancer and their families through recreational, educational, and support programs. Camp Sunshine offers a variety of programs throughout the year for children, including Summer Camp, junior camper programs for ages 7–12 years old, and preschool programs with fun day trips, picnics, and outings. Camp is described as the biggest event and is designed for the entire family, including brothers, sisters, and parents.
The staff at Camp Sunshine includes trained professionals in the childhood cancer journey, dedicated volunteers who support year-round programs, and medical professionals who can administer treatment to children with cancer. All volunteers complete an extensive application and training process and must pass a background check. Camp Sunshine is an accredited camp of the American Camp Association and has been designated as a Gold Ribbon Camp by Children’s Oncology Camping Association, International, recognizing high standards in pediatric oncology camping.
Camp Sunshine notes that doctors and nurses often say the power of Camp Sunshine is as impactful in a child’s cancer journey as their treatment. The organization describes its community as families dealing with childhood cancer who come together to share, grow, and find hope, along with passionate volunteers, board members, and donors.
