About

Kimball-Meeks Music Conservatory brings together a group of 48 twelve to eighteen year olds to study music theory, sight reading, brass instruments, guitar, chorus, and piano, along with theater and dance. Campers also take part in swim time, basketball, four-square, camp fires, entertaining night programs, trips to Six Flags and White Water, Bible Study, and classes to worship God. Campers live in small cabins with 12 beds and 3 showers and receive three healthy and hearty meals every day.

• Ages: 12–18 years old
• Schedule: Four-week session

The Kimball-Meeks Music Conservatory was established nearly 30 years ago as part of a Music and Arts Conservatory created with growth in mind, and the Conservatory Program in the Georgia Division started in 1986 as a seven-week summer music school. The Conservatory Program has since been split into a 5-day Junior Conservatory and a four-week Senior Conservatory and has brought young people to collegiate music scholarships time and time again. The program challenges campers in multiple musical and arts disciplines depending on their selected major and benefits all aspects of music and arts in the Georgia Division, from teaching beginners to enhancing already educated musicians and artists and offering opportunities for everyone to grow both spiritually and musically. Campers come from all over the state of Georgia and from various economic backgrounds, including homeless and comfortable, and from various ethnic backgrounds, including Hispanic, Korean, and Jamaican, and form bonds that grow into lasting and life-long friendships. Daily Bible Study and classes to worship God are part of the program’s mission to KNOW Christ as savior, friend, and guide, to SHOW Christ in music, art, and relationships, and to SHARE Christ with confidence, love, and passion. When a young person attends Kimball-Meeks Music Conservatory, they leave feeling more confident, skilled, nourished, and loved than when they arrived.

The leadership team includes Daniel Meeks, Divisional Music Director, who holds a Bachelors of Music Education degree from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, and Skyela “Skye” Bussey, Assistant Divisional Music & Arts Director specializing in Theater. There are not many places like The Salvation Army’s Kimball-Meeks Music Conservatory, which brings together twelve to eighteen year olds to live, worship, and make music together for four weeks.
