• Ages: 9–18 years old
• Schedule: Project Achievement for 7th–12th graders is a weekend competition in early February, with portfolio building activities starting during the summer, speech work beginning in November, and the program finishing in February; SAFE Shooting Sports practices begin in February and are typically two days a week and end on Mother’s Day weekend with the state match; Junior Conference is a two-day recreational and educational opportunity held November 8–9 in 2026.
The mission of Lee County 4-H Youth Development Programs is to translate science of everyday living for farmers, families and communities to foster a healthy and prosperous Georgia. The program includes Project S.A.F.E. (Shooting Awareness, Fun and Education), which is a curriculum-based program designed to assist young people in personal development, establish a personal environmental ethic and explore life-long vocational and avocational activities. Lee County 4-H is the home of an award-winning 4-H Shotgun Team. The Georgia 4-H Environmental Education Program connected to these offerings is one of the nation’s largest and oldest providers of local environmental education, and the Georgia 4-H Livestock Program gives students the chance to practice and acquire new knowledge in animal science, business, time management and leadership. Community involvement includes partnerships with Twin Oaks Elementary and Lee County Elementary, along with some community partners, to offer youth education through an outdoor classroom, recreational programs at Junior Conference that bring together 4-H’ers from all over Georgia, and UGA Extension Military Outreach, which builds partnerships and provides programs that help Georgia military families find positive ways to cope with the stress of military life. For SAFE Shooting Sports, the shooter must complete a Hunter's Safety Course to compete, and online Hunter's Safety Courses can be accessed through the provided link.
