About
Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center Summer Camps offers day and overnight sessions that include activities such as archery, wildlife identification, fishing, canoeing, play, crafts, live animal encounters, games, team challenges, shooting activities, and a fishing tournament. Campers in different sessions may also take part in snorkeling in a mountain creek, discussing black bear research, visiting a fish hatchery, caving for endemic salamanders and bats, and learning about Georgia’s game animals, wildlife, fish habitats, biology, and conservation. Some camps include learning basic rules of gun safety, handling rifles, shotguns, and archery equipment, and cleaning, maintaining, and storing firearms, as well as hunter safety practices, hunting methods, game processing, and game preparation for the table.

• Schedule: Day camps run Monday–Friday, 9 am–4 pm; overnight camps run Monday 10:30 am drop off to Friday 11:00 am pickup, with Shooting Sports running Monday–Thursday and ending at 3:00 pm on the last day
• Price: Nature Heroes and Where the Wild Things Are day camps cost $175; Gone Fishin’ and Outdoor Team Challenge overnight camps cost $350; Shooting Sports costs $315; Out Huntin’ Camp costs $350; Adventures in Conservation Education (ACE) costs $200
All overnight camps include a bed in onsite lodge-style rooms and meals in the Dining Hall at Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center. Nature Heroes camp uses Marvel and DC comic book personas, and by the end of the week campers become “CEWC Earth Warriors” and earn special hero gear. Where the Wild Things Are camp uses play, crafts, live animal encounters, and games. Gone Fishin’ camp includes a field trip and ends with a fishing tournament, Outdoor Team Challenge focuses on team challenges and earning points, Shooting Sports Camp emphasizes safety and responsible shooting with instruction on cleaning, maintaining, and storing firearms, and Out Huntin’ Camp participants earn Georgia’s Hunter Safety Certification with successful completion of the required exam. Adventures in Conservation Education (ACE) focuses on wildlife conservation, with day trips in the north Georgia Mountains where campers explore the Blue Ridge and Cumberland Plateau ecoregions by snorkeling in a mountain creek, discussing black bear research, visiting a fish hatchery, and caving for endemic salamanders and bats.
The Communications, Education and Outreach Section’s goals for these programs are to provide consistent and sound messaging to the public about wildlife, promote hunter education and shooting sports opportunities, and provide critical training to new and current staff. Thanks to a grant from The Environmental Resources Network, the cost of the Adventures in Conservation Education (ACE) camp is $200 per person.
