About
Atlanta Youth Tennis & Education Foundation (AYTEF) offers after school tennis programs five days a week, along with tennis instruction, competitive opportunities, and summer camps. The program also includes in-person and virtual academic enrichment, mentorship, monthly community events, and Serve & Connect events that bring together local youth and law enforcement for positive interaction and connection through tennis.
• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Schedule: After school tennis programs offered five days a week, with 46 weeks of programming available year-round
AYTEF is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that serves approximately 400 youth annually, providing 46 weeks of tennis instruction and educational enrichment each year. It provides year-round support for K–8 youth and is inspired by Arthur Ashe’s vision of equity through sport. The organization’s mission is to enrich the lives of underserved youth through tennis and education, and since 2003 it has been committed to this focus. AYTEF reports that 92% of participants identify as youth of color, and more than half qualify for free or reduced lunch. Its approach is rooted in Sports-Based Youth Development (SBYD), which is described as promoting long-term wellness and leadership through tennis, education, and mentorship, and it serves as a hub for consistent, year-round programming that blends sport, education, and life skills.
AYTEF is a member of the USTA National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) network, a national network of more than 250 nonprofit youth tennis organizations founded by and in honor of Arthur Ashe. It has strong partnerships with Cobb County Parks & Recreation, the USTA Foundation, and local schools and volunteers, and it has been selected as one of the nation’s first USTA Foundation Community Impact Hubs. AYTEF has received several recognitions, including 2022 USTA Georgia NJTL of the Year and the 2023 Georgia Professional Tennis Association Community Outreach Award. In earlier years, AYTEF operated out of Washington Park Tennis Center, offering after-school programs and hosting Serve & Connect events that brought together local youth and law enforcement through tennis.
One parent, Kiyan, shared that “AYTEF has been a wonderful outlet for my son and has made a positive impact on his life - empowering him to be a team player, encourage those around him, and always try his best.” A participant, Aanya, stated, “AYTEF has supported me in so many ways. What stands out the most at AYTEF is the emphasis on teamwork. Before coming here, my focus was on individual competition, but now I understand the importance of working together as a team.”
