About
Savannah Children's Theatre offers summer camps, after school classes, and community theatre productions that include classes in Creative Dramatics for PreK–12th grades, Dance for Musical Theatre, and Aerial Arts. The program also runs school field trips and a theatre field trip program called “Let’s Put on a Play.”
• Ages: 4–17 years old
• Schedule: Office hours Monday–Friday, 10am–6pm
Since its launch in 2004, Savannah Children's Theatre has produced over 375 plays and musicals for the Savannah community. Its theatre field trip program “Let’s Put on a Play” has served over 154,000 students across Georgia and South Carolina, and audience polls report that 70% of those students experienced live theatre for the first time during those visits. The organization operates as a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization and states that its mission is to inspire, educate and entertain children and families through the experience of live theatre, both on and off the stage. Activities are divided by age, not ability, so each class is customized based on the needs of the students present, and SCT Encore is available for participants who wish to explore more mature themes on stage, with a minimum audition age of 16. Savannah Children's Theatre states that it is committed to creating an inclusive and diverse environment where all are welcome.
The leadership team includes Board President Donna Epstein and board members LeeAnn Kole, Kayla Johnson, Joe Steffen, Beckie Templeton, Chris Bass, Shalonda Mullgrav, Len James, and Laura May Bennett. Summer Camp registration is open, and camp begins May 25th. Parent and student comments describe experiences with SCT camps and classes, including remarks about camp counselors and instructors, the atmosphere in classes, and student enjoyment of singing, dancing, acting, and interacting with classmates.
