Thomson Family YMCA Youth Programs include youth sports, dance programs, seasonal and summer day camps, karate, cheer, gymnastics, teen programs, adapted programs, adapted aquatics, Miracle League, and Total Access Gym. The branch also offers Play & Learn Child Care for families, After School Child Care, and a range of youth and adult activities such as group exercise classes, SilverSneakers, free weights, machine weights, an outdoor track, an outdoor pool with a large pool and dueling slides, and personal training.
• Schedule: Branch hours run Monday–Thursday 5:00am–9:00pm, Friday 5:00am–7:00pm, Saturday 8:00am–4:00pm, and Sunday 1:00pm–4:00pm; Play & Learn operates Monday–Thursday 8:30am–11:30am and 4:00pm–8:00pm, and Saturday 9:00am–12:00pm, with Play & Learn available for up to 2 hours per day (8 hours per week).
The Thomson Family YMCA has served the McDuffie County area since 2002 as part of the Greater Augusta Family YMCA, which has a 168-year legacy of service in the C.S.R.A. The mission of the YMCA of Greater Augusta is to serve individuals and families in the CSRA through programs designed to build healthy spirit, mind and body, reflecting the values of the Judeo-Christian tradition while maintaining respect for all people. Leadership for Thomson Family YMCA Youth Programs includes Sharon Crosby, Senior Vice President; Mac McIlhargey, Executive Director, Thomson YMCA; and Tina Woodward, Membership & Youth Program Director. The Play & Learn Child Enrichment Program is available at all CSRA area branches, uses a curriculum developed by the Y’s educational experts in music and movement, literacy, STEAM, and arts and crafts, changes weekly with the same offerings each day at every branch, and is free to all active Y members with a family membership. From Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, members can use the Thomson Family YMCA’s outdoor pool. The YMCA of Greater Augusta is a nonprofit organization that operates programs and services at more than 50 CSRA locations, including 9 program and wellness facilities, a Child Development Academy, Camp Lakeside, 27 PrimeTime Afterschool sites, and 19 summer camp locations across 8 counties. The organization reports providing $2 million in scholarships each year, delivering 2,100 beds through the A Place To Dream Program since 2017, and providing 4,000,000 meals to children and adults through Cheryl’s Kitchen Food Program.
