Signs of Fun Summer Camp is a one-week day camp where campers take part in swimming, fishing, art, games, sports, crafts, and at least one hike. The 2026 Summer Camp Theme is Zoomania.
• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: One-week day camp sessions held each summer, with camp hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m
• Price: The cost to the campers is minimal for the week.
Signs of Fun Summer Camp was established in 1995 by Arlene VanHorn for Deaf and hard of hearing youth in Virginia and is held each year for one week. Deaf and hard of hearing children and their siblings, ages 3 to 18 years old, are welcome. Signs of Fun offers day camps in Virginia and Hawaii, with 2026 camp dates scheduled for June 22–26, 2026, in Virginia and July 27–31, 2026, in Hawaii, both from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Many counselors are former campers who have graduated high school or are ASL students from local colleges, and teens ages 16–18 can participate as junior camp counselors. The camp offers a counselor-in-training program for teens, and those older than 18 can become camp counselors.
Parents are encouraged to sign up for the ASL class that takes place while their children are at camp. Signs of Fun relies solely on donations from supporters who believe in providing programs to children who are Deaf or hard of hearing and aims to assist parents by giving them options for communication with children who are Deaf or hard of hearing. Signs of Fun Summer Camp is a 501(c)(3) organization and receives support from the Lions Club, other fundraisers, parents, and friends. iDeaf was established to encourage and help facilitate communication and fellowship among the youth throughout the year, and the organization is in the process of setting up a monthly calendar of events. The program uses the phrase “Where LANGUAGE matters!” to describe its focus.
