blueFire Wilderness Therapy is described as a leading adventure therapy program for struggling youth specifically designed for ages 11 to 17, with a specialized young adult program called blueFire PulsaR for ages 18 to 28. The program is clinician-owned and combines clinical expertise with wilderness and adventure therapy, along with input from recreation, equine, academic, psychological, and medical experts. Therapists are in the field with clients at least four days per week, with individual therapy two times per week and therapist-led group therapy four times per week. The program includes a family-centered approach with parents involved in a Family Systems Process, weekly parent-therapist calls, family therapy sessions, and supportive parent groups. Weekly equine therapy is a regular part of the schedule, and the program offers up to 3.5 academic credits for middle school and high school students. Base camps are equipped with yurts with cots and a cooking center, with individual tents used during the summer months. The program uses in-field video technology for video journals and video-conferencing. blueFire Wilderness Therapy states that it meets or exceeds safety regulations set by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. The program was formed by a group of seasoned professionals who are owners and operators, and the team is described as nature-based therapy pioneers with over 75 years of combined experience working with struggling families. The program uses the metaphor of a fire-building model called Gather, Build, and Ignite, which includes gathering best practices for nature-based adventure therapy, building a strong and experienced team, and igniting the spark to provide the program for families in need. Testimonials from parents and a client describe positive experiences with the program and with an individual therapist named Jon.
