About
Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois Summer Camp (Camp Dean & Camp McCormick) offers summer camp programs in rustic environments, with camping options that include tents, cozy cabins, and year-round lodges. Some parts of camp are ADA accessible, while other parts are not, and camp is often a busy and loud place. Every camper is provided meals at camp, with homecooked, kid-friendly options, a salad bar or breakfast bar at each meal, and sandwich fixings available.
• Ages: 5–17 years old
• Price: Each family is expected to pay a portion of the fees, including the $100 deposit required at the time of session registration.
Girl Scout camp states that it is a place to go on adventures, develop new skills, build new relationships, and strengthen existing ones, and that Girl Scout camp will always be a camper’s home. The Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois’ Camp Dean and Camp McCormick summer camp programs are accredited through the American Camp Association, and Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois is a 501(c)(3) organization. Camp staff are not professionals in medical, educational, or social work fields.
GSNI summer camp kitchens are described as allergy conscious and will prepare alternative meals separate from mainstream meals to prevent cross contamination, but they are not 100% allergy-free and do not have dedicated allergy-free supplies. Camp meals offer a variety of healthy and kid-friendly options, and families do not need to provide their own alternative meals, though they may send favorite brands, snacks, or meals if they wish. Families are asked not to pack food in a camper’s belongings because it can attract animals to tents or cabins.
Camperships are available for GSNI council-sponsored summer camp, which includes sleep-away and day camp at Camp Dean and Camp McCormick, and only active youth members of Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois attending these sleepaway/overnight and day camps may apply. Camperships do not cover prepaid Trading Post account funds, Camper Care Packages, extra activity fees such as horseback riding or Adventure Camp outings, day camp overnight fees, troop or family camp fees for youth or adults, or GSNI Council-Sponsored travel events and financial assistance. Camper Care Kits, prepaid Trading Post account funds, and day camp overnight fees will not be covered by or refunded through camperships, and camperships cannot be requested for troops to cover members attending troop camping, as troops are expected to use Cookie Dough/Cashew Cash and troop fundraising for camping. Campers must be registered and the deposit paid before a campership application is completed, and the campership application must be filled out completely because missing or incomplete information will delay the request.
Caregivers of campers with special needs are asked to contact Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois prior to registration to provide accommodations and adequate support. Camp Directors work directly with families to identify accommodations that can be made to meet the needs of each camper, and GSNI states that it strives to be an inclusive community that provides equitable access for those who require additional physical, mental, social, or emotional support. Camp staff will assist in all ways possible for campers with special requests or needs, and Camp Directors will work directly with camp staff to support accommodations during each camp session. Families are asked to share any information that will help staff support campers before they arrive.
