About
Summer Camps at The Science Center include themed sessions such as Camp Creepy Crawly, Ocean Adventures Camp, Time Travelers Camp, Shipwrecked Camp, and Campers Choice Camp. Camp activities draw from areas like geology, space, DIY science, and museum exhibits such as the fossil dig, shadow wall, and pneumatic tubes. Camps are part of a broader set of programs that also include Home School classes and Grown Ups Night’s Out.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Five separate 3-day camps in summer 2025, with daily drop-off at 10:00 a.m. and pick-up between 3:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.; pre-registration required with registration deadlines on the Friday before each camp
• Price: Member camp fees generally range from $120–$125 per 3-day camp; non-member camp fees are $150 per 3-day camp

For all camps, families are asked to pack or bring a sack lunch, while healthy or nutritious snacks and water are provided. Camp Creepy Crawly specifically asks campers to wear messy-play clothes and gym or tennis shoes, with no flip flops, and all camps require that children be bathroom independent and at least 5 years old. Space is limited, pre-registration is required, and no late registrations are accepted.
The Science Center’s mission is “To nourish and preserve each child’s innate curiosity through hands-on, inquiry-based exploration.” The museum has been incorporated since 1992 and has been in its current mall location for over 25 years. Leadership includes Connie Adams as Museum Director and Program Director, who studied at Southern Illinois University with a focus on Chemistry, and Bill “Dino Guy” Adams as Director of Exhibits, who has a degree in commercial graphic design and began his career in toy-making. The Science Center is a member of the Association of Science and Technology Centers and offers reciprocal memberships with over 380 other museums across the country, and it operates as a recognized 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization.
The Science Center is supported by contributions from community members and is a regular destination for camps, field trips, and birthday parties. It also assists businesses, charity organizations, and local residents with exhibit design and building, sculpture services, and animal enclosures. Testimonials from visiting families describe a wide range of hands-on STEM/STEAM exhibits, live animals with knowledgeable staff, and favorite features such as the fossil dig, shadow wall, and pneumatic tubes.
