Arabesque Dance Studio opened in April of 2003 and has been sharing its passion for dance with students and audiences since 2003. The stated goal of Arabesque Dance Studio is to offer a quality education in an atmosphere that is positive and supportive and that promotes a genuine sense of self-esteem. The studio encourages dancers to take the disciplines of dance into their everyday lives, with a focus on building self-confidence, good self-esteem, and a passion for living.
Arabesque Dance Studio is led by studio owner Miss Kim Coffey, who opened the studio in April of 2003. The leadership and teaching team includes Miss Gabby Petersen (instructor, choreographer, and team director), Mr. Will Heisner (instructor who specializes in ballet and pointe, as well as acro), Miss Kamea Rhine (instructor), Miss Brandi Aken (instructor), Miss Sarah Baer (ballet instructor), Miss Bella Redd (ballet instructor), and Miss Gillian Corpuz (ballet instructor). Gail, Miss Kim’s mom, and Dee, Miss Devin’s mom, have managed the front desk, and Miss Devin Sheldon assisted in opening the studio. Miss Gabby Petersen is celebrating 5 years with Arabesque, and Mr. Will Heisner is celebrating 10 years with Arabesque.
By September of 2007, Arabesque Dance Studio had outgrown its original studio and needed to expand. In 2014, Miss Kim began working with a small group of dancers on routines to take to their first regional competition in St. Louis. In 2019, dancers from Arabesque attended the World Dance Championship in New York City. Arabesque moved to Willow Street in February of 2021 while also keeping its existing studio in Carterville, and this move included a merger with Willow Street Studios, home of Susan Barnes Dance in Carbondale.
Arabesque Dance Studio has had a presence in area competitions between local studios since 2003, and dancers have competed in regional, national, and world competitions, including the World Dance Championship in New York City and events within the Star Dance Alliance. Arabesque dancers became World Champions at the World Dance Championship in New York City in the 9–11 age category within the Star Dance Alliance. At a subsequent championship, Arabesque dancers earned three top 10 finalists and a lyrical excellence award, and the studio received a choreography nomination for Gabby Petersen and Kim Coffey. The studio describes its competitive team as a national and world winning competitive team.
