About
Beat the Streets Chicago – Youth Wrestling & Enrichment Programs offers youth wrestling, high school wrestling, and girls wrestling, along with the Life Champions Academy. The program also includes after-school tutoring, homework help, summer camps, STEAM camps, workshops, field trips, college visits, and a day of service.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Signature 10-month Enrichment Program
The program’s mission is to coach Chicago youth to grapple with life’s challenges as they work toward becoming “Life Champions,” combining wrestling with enrichment that teaches how to apply wrestling’s lessons. Its winter IKWF kids club is the largest in Illinois, and it operates the largest girls wrestling program in Illinois, welcoming girls aged 5 through 18. Youth wrestling is co-ed with girls paired with girls, and advanced youth and high school wrestlers can train as a girls-only team. The signature 10-month Enrichment Program combines life skills with wrestling lessons, and After-School Centers offer tutoring, homework help, snacks, and fun between school dismissal and wrestling practice. Week-long, half-day camps are available for wrestlers aged 5–13, and select locations also offer half-day STEAM camps that include learning, fun, and field trips. The organization guarantees a coach in every corner for every wrestler who commits to the program and reports hiring and training coaches to maintain a high coach-to-athlete ratio, with 15 full-time employees, 100 part-time coaches, and 150 volunteers.
Beat the Streets Chicago traces its history to 1994, when it started as Midlands Youth Foundation, changed its name to Beat the Streets Chicago in 1999, underwent a strategic “Re-Boot” in 2018, and in 2021 opened a wholly owned facility near Midway. The organization is involved in the community through over 20 CPS SCORE! sites, and 45 wrestlers participated in a Day of Service at various locations across the city.
