About
Girls in the Game offers girls the chance to take part in sports such as soccer, lacrosse, volleyball, golf, yoga, and triathlon. The program includes a mix of these different activities as part of its regular offerings.
• Ages: 7–18 years old
Girls in the Game states that every girl finds her voice, discovers her strength and builds confidence through its sports, health and leadership programs. The organization provides these programs in partnership with schools, parks and community centers in Chicago. Its programs include after school programs, a summer camp, clinics, one-time programs and teen programs. Girls in the Game uses a model called Sports-Based Youth Development (SBYD), using sport as a tool to develop positive outcomes in girls' lives. Its curriculum, coach training and safe space practices center social and emotional development over athletic development. Girls in the Game also offers an evidence-based health and leadership curriculum to outside partners through its All in for Girls initiative. The organization stands for inclusivity, welcoming LGBTQ+ youth and gender-expansive participants regardless of gender identity or expression, and creates spaces where participants can be vulnerable, build resilience, and explore who they are and who they want to be. Girls in the Game also runs a Charity Race Team that participates in events such as the Chicago Triathlon and Chicago Marathon and has expanded to international events including World Marathon Majors like Tokyo and Berlin. In addition, it hosts the Annual Chip in for Girls Golf Outing, which benefits Girls in the Game and helps send girls to summer programs.
