Raven Theatre Summer Camp includes theater games, collaborative storytelling, building scenes, and exploring character movement. Campers invent new warriors, design clan challenges, craft their own magical wands, create Emerald City art, and work on crafting enchanted objects. They also navigate puzzling quests, create dynamic clan stories, bring the barn to life with voices, movement, and imagination, create new barnyard adventures, invent animal and robotic characters, invent wild creatures, and spin their own webs of story-inspired friendship.
• Ages: 6–14 years old
• Schedule: Full-day, two-week camp sessions, with camp days from 9:00am–3:00pm and optional After Care from 3:00pm–4:00pm; 2025/26 sessions run June 22–July 3, July 6–July 17, and July 20–July 31
• Price: Standard Program Fee: $775 per session; After Care: $100 per session; $75 “Early Bird” discount available through February 16, 2026
Raven Theatre Summer Camp offers Group 1 options for ages 6–9, including sessions based on The Tale of Despereaux and Charlotte’s Web, and Group 2 options for ages 9–14, including sessions based on The Warriors and The Wild Robot. Additional sessions include Group 1 (ages 6–9) inspired by L. Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz and Group 2 (ages 9–14) inspired by The Wizard of Oz with elements from Wicked. For the full-day, two-week camp, the minimum age is 6, and campers are asked to have completed kindergarten.
Raven Theatre’s education programming also includes summer camps, field trip programs, in-school workshops, and in-school theatrical residencies. Raven Theatre tells stories of today and the past that connect audiences to the cultural landscape. Raven Theatre Company resides on the ancestral homelands of an alliance of three Native American nations: Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi, known collectively as the Council of Three Fires.
Executive Artistic Director Jonathan Berry is a Chicago-based director, teacher, and producer who pursued his MFA in directing from Northwestern University and holds a BFA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He has taught acting, directing, and viewpoints at the University of Michigan, Northwestern University, University of Chicago, Columbia College, Acting Studio Chicago, Bramble, Vagabond, and Black Box, and served as the director for the ensemble training program The School at Steppenwolf. The leadership team includes Jonathan Berry (Executive Artistic Director), Kandace Mack (Development & Communications Manager), Lisa Troi Hapin (Venue & Special Events Manager), Mechelle Moe (Director of Education), Lucy Whipp (Production Manager), and board officers and members including Nathan Taylor (President), Lauren Guydan (Vice President), Jeremy Heckman (Treasurer), Richard Rodriguez (Secretary), and additional members of the Board of Directors.
Raven Theatre was founded in 1983 and moved into its current home in 2002. Raven’s commitment to modern drama in all of its forms and its education programming has kept it a cultural presence on the north side of Chicago for over 40 years. For over 40 years, Raven Theatre has been home to revivals of modern dramas and thought-provoking new works for the Northside Chicago community.
Raven provides teaching artists to neighborhood schools for in-school theatrical residencies, a field trip program for elementary school students, and a children’s theatrical summer camp program. With efforts in the community, in neighborhood schools, and on the stage, Raven plays a part in the city’s cultural landscape and works with local elected officials, businesses, and community development organizations to offer programs that meet the needs of its neighbors.
