About

Young Rembrandts offers drawing classes as an after-school enrichment program, including after school classes and Afterschool clubs and activities. The program uses the Young Rembrandts method, which teaches children how to draw and includes child-friendly and relevant subject matter. Classes are built to be fun and present new lessons every single class for six years, with 2,000+ custom created lessons and never a repeat lesson.

• Ages: 3.5–12 years old

Young Rembrandts states that drawing has proven to have special significance for young learners by providing a visual and tactile medium that meets children's learning needs. The Young Rembrandts curriculum engages both sides of a child's brain and is described as a form of brain-based learning that supports complete education and full development of modern minds. Through weekly instruction, students are exposed to a wide variety of subject matter, artistic concepts, art history, and mastery of their materials. The program reports that children who participate can improve fine motor skills, attention to detail, visual-spatial organization skills, vocabulary, persistence, patience, discipline, manners, self-esteem, and self-confidence. Young Rembrandts describes its approach as developing the whole brain and doing more than just drawing.

The program provides drawing lessons for communities including St Charles, Geneva, Batavia, Aurora, Hampshire, Genoa-Kingston, Hinckley Big Rock, Elburn, Sycamore, and DeKalb. It is presented as a great activity for Pre-K and elementary students and is described as complementing existing art programs in schools. Young Rembrandts partners with schools and park districts to bring convenient afterschool clubs and activities. The organization reports serving 20,000+ students each week.

Young Rembrandts identifies Laura Baldwin as part of its leadership team. The program’s mission statement is that Young Rembrandts is an after-school enrichment program that offers drawing classes for children ages 3.5–12.

Parent feedback includes comments that children enjoy the classes and look forward to them, and that families have continued with multiple sessions. One parent, Esther, reports noticing her daughter’s attention to detail and steadiness of hand improve and attributes this in part to Young Rembrandts. Another parent, Nikky, states that the program helps concentration, imagination, printing skills, and uses different parts of the brain. A parent named La’Queta describes being excited that the program was brought to her child’s school as an alternative to sports and gave it “5 stars just for the thought.” Jason, a parent of a kindergartener, notes that his son loves the class, looks forward to it every week, and that their family plans to do the next session. Wena, another parent, reports being amazed by her daughter’s drawings and thanks Young Rembrandts for introducing techniques and styles of art.
