Turning Point Dance Studio has been providing dance education for over 40 years and was originally established by Patricia Toniolo (“Ms. Pat”) in 1979. It is now owned and operated by former student and longtime teacher Niki Wilk Mahon, who serves as Owner, Director, and Teacher and is also referred to as “Miss Niki.” Miss Niki has experience as a personal trainer, holds a Master’s Degree in education, and is a state certified teacher in Physical Education and Dance for grades K–12. Instructor Bethany Korzen is a dancer, choreographer, and dance educator who has been a dancer since age 3, began teaching at 15, focuses on Hip Hop and Contemporary Dance, also teaches Ballet, AcroDance, and Jazz, and offers private lessons for private events such as weddings, quinceaneras, and birthday parties. Instructor Sarah O’Keeffe began dance training with Reverence Academy of Dance, earned a BFA in Dance at the University of Kansas, was appointed president of the University Dance Company, and received the Lee Family scholarship, the Kick-start award, and the Elizabeth Sherbon Award for Dance. Sarah O’Keeffe has been a performing apprentice with Inaside Dance Chicago, has taken part in freelance projects around Chicago, and is a principal company dancer and choreographer for Trifecta Dance Collective.
The studio states that it strives to enrich the lives of each student enrolled at every age by nurturing dancers’ physical and mental health while developing creativity, athleticism, and artistry. Under Miss Niki’s direction, the studio states that it promotes a caring, positive, and motivating dance studio environment, teaches elements of dance technique and performance, engages students in performance opportunities, and encourages the development of character, positive self-awareness, a sense of community, and life and leadership skills. The studio describes itself as providing quality dance education in a safe, fun, and supportive environment for the community and surrounding neighborhoods and notes that it has been part of Elmwood Park’s community for over 40 years.
