River Valley Players is a non-profit organization dedicated to the performing arts and has been entertaining the communities of the Illinois River valley since 1977. It presents a major musical each spring and various projects in the summer and fall, and its shows feature a unique dinner theater experience with a lavish meal. River Valley Players has frequently been affiliated with the Sun Foundation and has received grants from the Illinois Arts Council for its Youth in Community Theater Program and to host theater workshops for children. The organization has sponsored numerous community projects, including a singing troupe for many community events and a riverside musical revue that coincided with the expedition of the floating State of Illinois Museum, which have helped raise money for workshops, community celebrations, historical walks, area schools, and St. John’s. Members have participated in community church ecumenical choirs and actively loan costumes, equipment, and technical expertise such as lighting, sound, musical direction, and choreography to surrounding grade schools, high schools, community theaters, and county historical societies. River Valley Players was instrumental in forming the Becky Brant Memorial Scholarship for Henry students to attend summer music camps and continues to contribute to it, and it also provides educational grants for students seeking careers in the performing arts or who have served the group in some capacity. The leadership report for the group has been respectfully submitted by Jane Knapp.
