Founded in 2009, Plainfield Saints Youth Football and Cheer offers championship-winning youth football and cheer programs for ages 6 to 13 in the Plainfield, Naperville, Joliet, and surrounding areas. The program’s mission is to introduce young athletes to football and cheer, spread the love for the sport, develop sportsmanship and strong work ethic, and prepare athletes to compete at an elite level when they enter high school. All instructional and competitive programs focus on fundamentals, safety, and academics, and the Saints emphasize creating a positive competitive environment on the field and in the classroom and teaching life lessons to create high character citizens and future leaders.

Plainfield Saints Youth Football and Cheer is a proud member of Pop Warner, which is described as the nation’s largest and oldest youth football and youth cheerleading organization with over 425,000 participants in 44 states and six countries. As a partner with Heads Up Football, the program states that safety is a central part of the game. Pop Warner Little Scholars is described as the only national youth sports organization in America that requires its participants to perform adequately in the classroom before permitting them to play, and the Saints state that they go beyond teaching fundamentals by also teaching the importance of scholastics in the sport and in everyday life. All coaches are certified by USA Football, Pop Warner, and YCADA (for cheer), and coaches are Pop Warner and USA Football Certified.

The program notes that each age group with two teams will have a Division 2 team and a Division 3 team. Division 2 is described as the top competitive level of play and could advance to the Pop Warner National Championships at Walt Disney World in Florida for teams that win their Conference and Regional Championship. Division 3 is described as a competitive level of play without national playoffs but with Conference and Regional Playoffs, and the season could end at the Mid-America Regional Championship for teams that win their Chicagoland conference. With its Plainfield Central location, the program has players from Plainfield, Naperville, Joliet, Aurora, and Oswego.

The registration fee covers insurance, field rental, a helmet and shoulder pads as seasonal rentals, two pairs of socks (game socks and breast cancer awareness socks), a reversible game jersey with the player’s last name printed on the back, and 15 raffle tickets at $10 each, with the player keeping the $150 to offset the registration fee. All rental equipment must be returned at the end of the season, while jerseys and socks are the player’s to keep. Parents are responsible for providing a chin strap, mouth guard, practice jersey, practice pants or game pants, and football cleats. All tackle football players must attend a uniform and equipment fitting date to be fitted for a helmet and shoulder pads, be weighed to determine jersey size, and request jersey numbers, and all registration fees must be paid in full for athletes to participate in practice.
