Forest City Gymnastics began in 1976 and has been serving gymnasts for over 44 years. The program offers classes for both boys and girls, including recreational and competitive gymnastics programs, and classes ranging from 18 months to adult. It uses the CANGYM program, Gymnastics Canada’s national skill development and evaluation program, with a progressive 12-badge structure. In this program, girls complete 20 different skills per level using beam, bars, vault, and floor, and boys complete 20 different skills per level using floor, vault, parallel bars, rings, pommel horse, and horizontal bar. Owners are listed as Cindy Smith-Rex and Andy Gantlett.
The mission of Forest City Gymnastics is to promote, foster, and perpetuate gymnastics as an educative and constructive recreational and competitive experience, and to study and teach all aspects of gymnastics while sharing methodology and standards throughout the City of London and surrounding community. The organization states goals that include encouraging training programs and clinics for instructors and personnel, cooperating with Gymnastics Ontario and the Canadian Gymnastics Federation in the development of the sport, organizing and participating in competitions, displays, and clinics, acting as a liaison among gymnastics interest groups and officials, and providing a facility and equipment to meet these goals. Forest City Gymnastics is a member club of Gymnastics Ontario and works with the Jumpstart program through Canadian Tire.
For recreational gymnastics classes, children can wear either shorts and a tight-fitting T-shirt or a gymnastics leotard, and all participants must be in bare feet for safety reasons. Hair must be pulled away from the face into a ponytail with an elastic band, and children are asked to bring a water bottle because there is no fountain. Competitive athletes must wear a one-piece leotard. The program offers a discount for each additional child registered in the same session, which applies to multiple classes. A deposit of half the invoiced amount is required within 10 days of registration, with the remaining balance due on or before the first day of classes. Forest City Gymnastics accepts cash, cheque, debit, Visa, and MasterCard. There are no trial or drop-in classes due to insurance and liability issues. Refunds are offered only for enrollment cancelled with no less than 14 days’ notice prior to the beginning of a session or camp; deposits are non-refundable, and the Gymnastics Ontario fee is non-refundable. Makeup classes for missed classes are provided only if Forest City Gymnastics cancels due to an unexpected issue out of their control.
