Harlem Community Center Youth Programs are part of Harlem Community Center, which began as Harlem Youth Council, granted a State Charter as a not-for-profit corporation on June 21, 1957. In its first year, 200 people used its programs, growing to 1,200 people in 1967, and today Harlem Community Center reports serving over 100,000 individuals a year. The organization’s mission is “Promoting a strong community through a range of programs which support the educational, social, and recreational needs of families and individuals.” Harlem Community Center operates out of three locations and includes facilities such as a gymnasium, classrooms, and the Hand-n-Hand Child Care Center in a 27,000 square foot building, with a 40,000 square foot facility planned for 2025 that will include a new childcare center, a senior day center, and two large gymnasiums. The HCC/Wentland Sport Complex is a 32-acre facility with 15 ball diamonds, basketball courts, sand volleyball courts, a walking path, and SkateWorks. Coaching inquiries are directed to Joe at [email protected].

Harlem Community Center serves Northern Winnebago County, Illinois, including Machesney Park, Loves Park, Roscoe, Rockton, and South Beloit. One parent, Emma S., reports that her son attended Summer Camp for two summers and describes the program as very organized, with no negative experiences. Another parent, Deb R., reports over 20 years of involvement with HCC, with her children and later grandchildren participating in sports there.
