Gaslight Art Colony Kids Classes
Gaslight Art Colony, 516 Archer Ave., Marshall, IL 62441
About
Gaslight Art Colony Kids Classes are offered through the Gaslight Art Colony arts center. The program is part of an organization that remains dedicated to promoting awareness, participation, and understanding of the arts. Monthly gallery openings connected with the colony showcase local, regional, and international artists on the third Saturday evening of each month from February through November.
• Schedule: Regular business hours include Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 am to 1 pm, Thursday from 10 am to 5 pm, and Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm.
A small group of artists and interested individuals from the Marshall community began meeting in February 2009 to form an art facility, and the organization became an official Illinois 501(c)(3) charitable organization by September 2009. The volunteer-based organization opened its doors on Saturday, October 17, 2009, and celebrated its 15th anniversary in October 2024. Gaslight Art Colony is spearheaded by Jo Rich-Vadas and Mary Lou Cornelison and is governed by a board of directors. The name “Gaslight Art Colony” was inspired by a large replica gaslight on the front of the downtown building and by the Handy Writers Colony, a well-known group active in Marshall during the 1950s and 60s. The organization would not have been able to open in its first year without donations and contributions from many people in the community. The Gaslight Art Colony was recently featured on Heartland Highways, and families can now donate or pay for classes using Venmo.
