About

Grainger Engineering Summer Camps offers STEM-interested students authentic and challenging projects and activities, demonstrations, lab tours, classroom presentations, and hands-on activities. Campers sample more than 10 engineering majors or fields in a Survey of Engineering camp session or take a Deeper Dive into a Discipline (3-D) of Engineering with a full week of focused exploration. The program includes interactions with various students, staff, and professors, and campers explore engineering and the sciences through hands-on, minds-on activities, including researching side-by-side with Illinois faculty and students.

• Ages: 12–17 years old
• Schedule: Summer Camp Applications open February 1st, and applications are open during the month of February.

As the pre-college outreach and public engagement unit in The Grainger College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) Program introduces talented and diverse pre-college students to active college students through these camps. WYSE aims to overcome opportunity gaps by providing students from underrepresented populations with opportunities to experience success and to see themselves as future engineers, programmers, mathematicians, and scientists. Through collaborations with departments across campus, with corporations and foundations, and with in- and out-of-school learning partners across the state, WYSE offers multiple out-of-school learning opportunities for K–12 students in Illinois, the nation, and the world. In alignment with its mission to foster a supportive environment for all members of the university community, this organization is open to all eligible students regardless of race, color, or national origin who have an interest in encouraging diversity and inclusion in STEM fields.
