Codinu offers computer coding and robotics sessions that include tech-centric activities. The program also hosts special events such as the Daddy Daughter Code-a-thon, where young girls and their fathers or father-figures work together on coding and robotics projects.
• Schedule: Class times are available Monday 4pm–7:30pm, Thursday 4pm–7pm, and Saturday 10am–1pm.
Codinu operates in partnership with Naperville Park District. The leadership team includes Sakina Fakhruddin (Founder and CEO), Nitesh Baranwal (Chief Product Officer), Shruti Mathur (Head of Operations), and Mirica Yancey (Head of Instruction). Sakina is an IBM Alumni and one of the top student technologists in India, certified by Microsoft, and holds a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. Nitesh holds a Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Shruti holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics Engineering, and Mirica holds a BS in Computer Science.
Codinu’s stated mission is to enable kids with necessary skills and an ability to think, to ignite a passion for technology in young minds, and to support kids in becoming technology creators rather than mere consumers. The program emphasizes creative thinking and problem solving, combines individual focus with a collaborative approach, and describes its environment as all-inclusive, fun, and collaborative for kids to learn to code. Codinu also states a commitment to providing high-quality STEAM education, especially to underserved communities.
Codinu and its work have been featured on Naperville Community Television (NCTV17). The Daddy Daughter Code-a-thon was held in partnership with Naperville Park District. Sakina is actively involved with organizations like Girls Who Code and Code.org, and Nitesh is involved in his local community, including coaching and mentoring kids in soccer and in his Cub Scouts pack.
