About
Oswego Baseball & Softball Association (OBSA) – Travel Baseball & Softball offers Travel Baseball and Travel Softball through the Oswego Panthers and Oswego Outlaws programs. Players take part in tryouts that include evaluations of fielding, hitting, throwing, and base running in a controlled setting, and each team plays a minimum of 30 games per season.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Separate tryouts for each age bracket take place in mid to late July, with multi-day player evaluations; most teams hold light practices in the fall and then practice once or twice a week starting in January, and the Travel game season runs from April to July.
• Price: Costs for 9U–14U teams are estimated at $1,400.00–$1,800.00, with a first installment of $400 due upon acceptance and remaining amounts paid in equal monthly installments; high school level teams (15U and up) pay OBSA operating fees of approximately $140.00, and team budgets are set by team managers based on need and tournaments.
The OBSA Travel Baseball Program was created to provide a higher level of competition beyond its in-house recreational program for talented and motivated baseball players. Eligibility for OBSA Travel Division Baseball requires players 13U and under to reside within the boundaries of Oswego School District #308, while the boundary is open for 14U and above. Selected players are contacted within 48–72 hours of the final tryout, and kids are evaluated each year and given feedback on strengths, weaknesses, and ways to improve. Players are expected to attend all practices and games, arrive at games dressed and ready to play, conduct themselves with good sportsmanship at all times, have a positive baseball attitude, and be willing to listen, learn, and implement what is being taught.
The player fee includes uniforms, field house and batting cage rental, field maintenance costs, league scheduling, umpires, tournament team fees, a batting helmet, a bat bag, miscellaneous team equipment, and third-party team instruction, and it does not include traveling expenses, personal equipment, or personal expenses. Fundraising and sponsorship opportunities are available to reduce player fees. OBSA also offers an Instructional (In-House) League, a Competitive In-House Tournament Team after the recreational season, and Travel Baseball & Softball under the Oswego Panthers and Oswego Outlaws names.
The baseball league is open to players between the ages of 5 and 17 by April 30 in the calendar year of the season who reside within the boundaries of Oswego School District 308 or the Oswegoland Park District. The softball league is open to female players between the ages of 7 and 18 by December 31 in the calendar year of the season who reside within the boundaries of Oswego School District 308 or the Oswegoland Park District. Since 1989, OBSA has provided youth baseball and softball experiences for boys and girls of Oswego SD #308. OBSA is a community-based, volunteer-centric organization that has helped expose thousands of kids to the games of baseball and softball, and its leagues and facilities grow with active help from families and businesses in the area. Jason Kudelka serves as OBSA’s Director of Travel Baseball, and Dan Malloy is listed as a contact for more information. The mission of OBSA is to provide an opportunity for all children between the ages of 5 and 14 to learn baseball and/or softball in a safe, welcoming, and instructive environment while fostering a love for the game, encouraging sportsmanship and teamwork, building confidence, and having fun.
