About

Challenger Camp offers organized educational activities, organized recreational activities, and fun field trips throughout the summer. It is an all-inclusive summer day camp for full-day campers in 1st–6th grade. Campers and staff strive to teach, practice, and model the values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility each day, and the camp promotes social skills, self-confidence, sportsmanship, character development, and healthy kids.

• Ages: 6–12 years old
• Schedule: June 1st – July 31st, Monday–Friday, 7:00am–5:30pm
• Price: Registration Fee: Individual- $50 / Family- $100. Drop-In/Daily Rate: Individual- $55 / Non-Members- $66. Cost Members: 5 Days/Week $180 (1 child), Additional Child(ren) $160; 3 Days/Week $155 (1 child), Additional Child(ren) $135. Cost Non-Members: 5 Days/Week $235 (1 child), Additional Child(ren) $215; 3 Days/Week $180 (1 child), Additional Child(ren) $160.

All participants must submit completed and signed enrollment, medical, and waiver forms on the first day the child attends camp. Children are asked not to bring personal items. With parental or guardian consent, the director may distribute any medications a child may need. Parents or guardians must sign campers in and out at check-in and check-out, and each camper must be signed in and out each day by a parent or guardian who is at least 18 years old. Financial aid is available for those who qualify, and the Y will not turn away any child who wishes to participate in the camp because of their inability to pay.

Challenger Camp is part of the Illinois Valley YMCA, whose mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The YMCA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit social services organization dedicated to Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. The leadership team connected to the program includes Youth Development Director Maya Ahlstrom, Aquatic Director Doug Mille, and CEO Chris Weittenhiller. Aquatic Director Doug Mille is a Stormy Webster Award recipient (2025), and CEO Chris Weittenhiller is a Leadership Legacy Award recipient.
